Fillers on the Rise: Juvéderm® Proves to Be an Increasingly Popular Choice
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently published an annual report highlighting the top surgical procedures and minimally invasive treatments performed around the United States in the previous year. While there are many standout details, among them is the fact that injectable dermal fillers are rising in popularity. Long a provider of Juvéderm® in the Philadelphia area, the Cross Medical Group team understands the ongoing (and increasing) allure of treatments that add appearance-improving volume without the need for lengthy recovery times.
First, a quick look at the numbers: Juvéderm is what is known as a hyaluronic acid filler, a category that also contains other brands, such as Restylane®. All of the fillers under this umbrella are made with a naturally occurring sugar that binds to water in the skin, commonly called “HA.” The results from these hyaluronic acid fillers are visible right away and can last for years.
In 2023, doctors and their teams across the country performed 5,294,603 HA filler injections for patients. This represents an 8 percent increase in these treatments over the year before.
Only one other treatment—in both the minimally invasive and surgical categories—surpassed HA fillers in terms of numbers of applications. Neuromodulators like wrinkle-relaxing BOTOX® clocked in at 9,480,949 treatments for 2023, enjoying a 9 percent increase over 2022.
While no minimally invasive option can replicate the more dramatic and long-lasting results possible with plastic surgery, injectables do offer convenience, ease, and beautifully noticeable results.
At Cross Medical Group, out injectors use the various formulations of Juvéderm® to address midface volume loss, creating rounder and fuller-looking cheeks, as well as subtly lifting away jowls that have begun to develop due to loss of support higher on the face. Injections can also smooth nasolabial folds and other facial creases, as well as enhance thin lips for a plumper pout.
The hyaluronic acid in these injectables is based on the same hyaluronic acid made naturally by the body to keep skin well-hydrated, moisturized, and plump. HA molecules can bind up to 1,000 times their own weight in water, so they are especially ideal when it comes to helping aging skin appear thicker and more youthful.
