Laser Skin Resurfacing
REVERSE SIGNS OF SKIN DAMAGE IN THE PHILADELPHIA AND VILLANOVA AREAS
If you’re bothered by wrinkles, lines, scars, or pigmentation irregularities on the skin, there’s an advanced treatment that can significantly improve your skin tone and texture: laser skin resurfacing. Philadelphia and Villanova’s Cross Medical Group recommends these versatile laser treatments to reduce skin irregularities and imperfections—and boost confidence. Our team of experienced and trained aestheticians can recommend the most suitable combination of lasers for laser skin resurfacing to correct a wide range of blemishes and imperfections.
Throughout your life, the effects of aging and exposure to different stressors from the environment can take a toll on your skin. Ultraviolet radiation, natural aging, gravity, smoking, weather changes, and exposure to harsh chemicals can eventually cause the skin to look worn out. Laser skin resurfacing remains a popular treatment in 2022 and 2023 for countering the effects of all of these factors.

WHAT IS LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
We all want our skin to have that dewy, airbrushed glow. Although at-home options and other in-office skin rejuvenation procedures can improve your skin, laser skin resurfacing is an especially effective and customizable option. Laser skin resurfacing is designed to improve the skin’s texture and appearance by reducing minor flaws on the face and body.
What are the benefits of laser skin resurfacing? In basic terms, laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that involves using beams of light to precisely remove layers of skin in small areas to kickstart natural healing processes. As laser energy creates damage to the skin, the body will respond by boosting collagen production to repair the tiny wounds. The new skin that takes its place will be more refreshed, healthy, and clear with a tighter and younger appearance.

WHAT CAN LASER SKIN RESURFACING ADDRESS?
There are various types of lasers that can address different visible effects of aging and signs of skin damage.
Some of the main ways laser skin resurfacing can improve your skin include:
- Minimized wrinkles, age spots, and sun damage
- Improved skin texture and tone
- Collagen production stimulation for healthier and firmer skin
- Reduced and faded acne scarring
- Wart, enlarged oil gland, or mild skin laxity treatment
- Reduced large pores
- A radiant glow as the ultimate proof of healthy skin
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
If you have cosmetic concerns that are related to aging, sun exposure, or acne that haven’t responded to over-the-counter treatments, you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing. Patients will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether they are eligible for laser skin resurfacing. If you are healthy, have good skin elasticity, and a non-oily complexion, you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing.
Laser skin resurfacing is designed for patients who have moderate wrinkles or irregularities. If you have recently taken certain medications, such as Accutane, you may not be a good candidate for this procedure. To minimize any potential risks of complications, you should make sure the doctor is aware of any medications you are currently taking or any skin enhancement procedures you have had. Candidates should also have realistic expectations about what can be accomplished with laser skin resurfacing procedures.

WHICH TYPES OF LASER PEELS ARE AVAILABLE AT CROSS MEDICAL GROUP?
Although laser skin resurfacing delivers incredible results, choosing the right treatment type maximizes the benefits. To optimize your results from Joule, we will recommend one of these three treatments: the Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser, Micro Laser Peel, and Nano Laser Peel.
HALO: HYBRID FRACTIONAL LASER SKIN RESURFACING
With Halo laser skin resurfacing, we can reverse the aging process and maintain a "younger you" for the long term. This hybrid fractional laser uses a combination of wavelengths. Halo improves the skin's structure, leads to a natural increase of hyaluronic acid, stimulates new collagen production, and restores a healthy radiance to the skin. This results in skin that is rejuvenated and radiating with energy. In the case of deeper lines, wrinkles, and acne scars, multiple laser skin resurfacing treatments are advised.
The Halo laser is often compared to the Fraxel laser, leaving people confused as to which of the two is better. Based on our experience, we prefer Halo for laser skin resurfacing, since it proves to be more effective, less painful, and requires shorter downtime. At Cross Medical Group in Philadelphia and the Main Line, we only offer patients technologies that we have tested and have proved to work well on patients with similar conditions.
MICRO LASER PEEL FOR SUPERFICIAL SKIN PEELING
A Micro Laser Peel can minimize unwanted skin deviations, such as freckles, sun or liver spots, fine lines, and superficial discoloration. This type of peel provides a superficial skin peeling. The results of a Micro Laser Peel start to show within three to five days after the treatment. Typically, after one week, you can resume your normal activities. Your skin will look brighter, radiant, and more alive.
NANO LASER PEEL WORKS TO RENEW YOUR SKIN
The Nano Laser Peel treatment is a gentler, more superficial version of the Micro Laser Peel. It removes a very thin skin layer with precision. It goes deeper than chemical peels and microdermabrasion, but it does not overheat and damage the skin messenger cells that play a part in the collagen remodeling process.

WHAT ARE RECOVERY AND RESULTS LIKE FROM LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
Most patients can enjoy some rapid results from laser skin resurfacing treatments, with a boost to radiance visible right away. The quality of the skin will also continue to improve for up to a year as new collagen is made. Many patients feel the treatment gives them a chance to “turn back the clock.” Laser skin resurfacing won’t prevent aging from having an impact on your skin, but the results can last for years to come.
Some common questions that follow a treatment session are: What happens to your skin after laser skin resurfacing? How can I heal faster after laser skin resurfacing?
Every patient is different, but most patients don’t experience much discomfort and describe laser-treated skin as feeling similar to a mild sunburn. It’s common to experience some minor swelling, redness, itching, and stinging for a few days, but all of these fade on their own.
Be sure to avoid sun exposure as much as possible before and after the procedure, since laser-treated skin is especially sensitive, and ultraviolet radiation can impact the results.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER SKIN REJUVENATION TREATMENTS AVAILABLE?
In addition to laser skin resurfacing, there are other minimally invasive and non-invasive procedures that can address the effects of aging or damage on the skin. Cross Medical Group offers an extensive selection of non-surgical treatments to revitalize the skin, including light-based treatments like intense pulsed light (IPL) and BroadBand Light (BBL) for gentle rejuvenation and removal of irregular pigmentation, chemical peels, dermaplaning, AquaGold, microneedling, and Ultherapy®.
Peels and dermaplaning exfoliate the damaged skin on the outer layers to promote skin cell turnover and improve the appearance of the skin. Ultherapy® is an ultrasound-based skin tightening treatment that works by triggering the production of new collagen and elastin.
Patients who have significantly loose, sagging skin on the face may want to consider a surgical facelift instead. The surgical procedure addresses contours, while laser skin resurfacing addresses skin tone and texture, making the results highly complementary.
