4 Steps to a Flatter Belly Via Tummy Tuck
The Cross Medical Group team has long offered tummy tuck surgery in the Philadelphia and Villanova area, helping patients from all walks of life to achieve their body contouring goals in general and a flatter, tighter midsection in particular.
Despite knowing that they want the results a tummy tuck can offer, many patients come to Dr. Kevin Cross and Dr. Jackie Lyons unsure of what the procedure involves. First, it’s important to note that this is totally fine, as consultations are for patients to explain the look they are hoping to achieve. Based on an examination of their body, a thorough medical history, and a professional assessment of the options, our experienced plastic surgeons will determine the ideal approach—and then explain what it entails, as well as answer questions about the procedure.
That said, it can be helpful to know the basics of what a so-called “traditional” tummy tuck involves. Here are the four steps patients can expect to be part of the surgery:
First, two incisions are made across the abdomen, roughly from hip to hip, with one going above the navel and the other going below. An incision will also be made around the navel itself.
Second, your plastic surgeon will surgically tighten separated abdominal muscles as necessary, as well as remove stubborn pockets of fat.
Third, the abdominal skin will be pulled taut so that the belly has a slim and flat look. Excess skin is trimmed away, and an incision is made for the new navel.
Fourth and finally, the skin will be sutured into place. The navel will be positioned in a natural location, and the patient will be able to enjoy their new contours.
Of course, there will be a recovery period after the surgery. Both Dr. Cross and Dr. Lyons use sophisticated techniques so that patients can experience the shortest and most comfortable recovery possible.
