Which Anti-Aging Treatment Will Be Most Effective for My Skin Condition?

Patients who choose aesthetic treatments like BOTOX® from Philadelphia-area injectors often want to look younger or more energized, but may be unsure about what’s specifically bothering them. Each patient’s needs are different, so a “cookie-cutter approach” to correcting wrinkles or other concerns is not an effective strategy. Our experienced injectors at Cross Medical Group team will discuss the nuances with you during your consultation, to help you decide on the best approach for getting the results you want. We also encourage patients to do their own research to have a clear understanding of what each treatment involves.

Not all anti-aging procedures are the same, and each has its own unique strengths. Here is a brief outline of some of the most common signs of aging and the treatments that are typically used to address them:

Dynamic Wrinkles

The wrinkles that you do not see much of when your face is at rest, but that appear pronounced when you scrunch up your face or make an animated expression, are known as dynamic wrinkles. These develop because it’s not only your skin that’s involved in aging; your underlying muscles play a role as well, as they constantly contract and pull on the overlying skin when you move your face. Common examples of these wrinkles include crow’s feet, “11s” between the brows, and horizontal forehead lines. BOTOX® and similar botulinum toxin type A muscle relaxants temporarily minimize these wrinkles by temporarily preventing the contractions.

Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles are lines and creases that aren’t primarily caused by facial muscle movements, but by intrinsic aging. These include wrinkles associated with heavy sun exposure, smoking, loss of collagen over time, poor nutrition, and air pollution—or, most likely, a combination of all of the above. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers like Juvederm® or collagen stimulator fillers like Radiesse® can restore the lost volume to make the skin smoother again.

Uneven Color and Texture

Injectables reduce the severity of wrinkles, but anyone who wants a rejuvenated look should also consider the overall tone, feel, and health of their skin. A resurfacing treatment such as a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing will help to reduce the surface damage while stimulating collagen and skin cell turnover to improve hyperpigmentation, scars, dullness, rough patches, and more.
